RESIDENTS are being urged to be extra vigilant after a spate of thefts from vehicles.

Police say there has recently been a rise in the number of thefts from vehicles in recent days in Denmead.

Officers have received a number of reports in the area and are now urging residents to be extra vigilant and make sure vehicles are secure.

Police in Winchester wrote on social media that residents should close all windows and lock cars when leaving them, remove valuable items where possible overnight, and don't leave anything on display.

Officers also said vehicles should be parked in a secure area, with all sat nav holders and ring marks on the windscreen removed.

Documents for the vehicle should also not be stored in the vehicle and residents can record the details of their property on the Immobilise website.

A police spokesperson said: "We are following up all lines of enquiry available to us. Please continue to report any suspicious activity to us.

"Either on 999 if it’s happening now, 101 or via our online reporting tool and if you have any relevant information or CCTV footage please contact us via the Hampshire Constabulary website."
