COMMUTERS faced rush hour chaos in the New Forest this morning after a six-car pile-up, a broken down lorry and a two-vehicle smash - all on the same road.

All three incidents happened on the A31 between Ringwood and Cadnam.

Five cars and a van were involved in a crash eastbound at Picket Post at 7.20am. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries and the road remained open, but the incident led to huge tailbacks stretching as far as Ringwood.

Just over an hour later, at 8.30am, a driver behind the wheel of a Peugeot car lost control of the vehicle westbound on the A31 at Stoney Cross.

The Peugeot spun in the road and was hit by another car. A crew from South Central Ambulance attended to treat one driver and one lane of the carriageway was closed for about 40 minutes.

Half a mile behind this incident, a broken down HGV was also blocking the road and causing delays for drivers. This was cleared from the road by 9.30am.
