PLANS to build a new home in the garden of another have not been welcomed by neighbours.

The two-bedroom detached bungalow would be built to the rear of 152 Milton Road – opposite Saints' former ground The Dell.

Applicant D Singh says the home would be of 'relatively traditional design', and have one off-road parking space which would be accessed from Wilton Avenue.

But, Bargate councillor Sarah Bogle says the home would be an overdevelopment of the area, and also cause a loss of light to neighbours.

She also warned of safety issues turning in and out of Wilton Avenue.

However, Southampton City Council's planning officers said they were 'satisfied' there would be no issues of road safety.

Cllr Bogle added: "This is the creation of an additional dwelling in a garden in a densely populated area with some houses of character and close to a conservation area."

The council has earmarked the plans for approval, with a decision to be made at a meeting on Tuesday.
