A NEW gentlemen’s club with extended hours could open in Southampton city centre if plans are given the green light.

A new gentlemen’s club could open in a London Road basement.

What was once Kelly’s Bar could instead become a site for adult entertainment.

It includes the basement, and part of the ground floor at numbers 35 to 41 London Road.

According to documents lodged with the city council, the planning application is to get permission to extend the opening hours of an already permitted gentleman’s club from the current restriction of 2am to 5am.

The proposal is to “simply bring the planning consent into line with its licence”.

If the application is granted, the club would open Sunday to Thursday, from 9pm to 5am.

And Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 5am.

The proposal for an earlier opening time on Friday and Saturday relates to male dance acts - ‘Dreamboys’ which “cater for the female and gay audience and tend to start early”, based on documents submitted to the city council.

According to applicants, Playhouse Entertainment Ltd, the club would create 20 full-time jobs and 50 part-time positions.

The proposed gentleman’s club would be an all seated venue.

The seating arrangement can accommodate up to 120 customers at anyone time, however, numbers would generally be ‘below 50’.

Entry to the club would be controlled by a high door charge or booking directly online.

The plans were submitted to the city council at the end of July and are currently awaiting a decision.

So far, they have not received any objections.

At the ground floor the site comprises a stairway to the basement and floorspace previously operated as a café.

The basement floor area is fully noise insulated and extends beneath units 35-41 London Road.

It was run under the name Kiss Nightclub until 2018.

Meanwhile, there are flats on the first and second floors above.

The site also falls within the Bedford Place ‘Evening Zone’1 which comprises a number of commercial and late night uses.

There are a number of late night venues in close proximity, such as The London Road Brew House, The Giddy Bridge, Revolution, The Orange Rooms, Buddha Lounge, The Cricketers Arms and Brew Dog.
