PLANS for 61 new homes on an area of grazing land have been refused.

The planning application was submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council for permission to build 61 new homes on Satchell lane, Hamble-Le-Rice back in December.

Outline planning was originally granted for the area in 2018, allowing plans for up to 70 homes in the area.

But now the application, made by Foreman Homes, has been rejected after more than 500 objections were received by the council throughout the consultation period.

The development included one, two, three and four-bedroom houses including detached, semi-detached, maisonette and terraced properties.

Access would have been provided in the form of a junction on Satchell Lane with every home having its own garage or driveway for parking.

As well as this, a play space was also planned along with an open green in the centre.

The plans were refused permission on August 13.

On the council’s planning portal, it is said that the reason for the refusal was that the “proposals represent an inappropriate and unjustified form of development which would have an unacceptably urbanising and visually intrusive impact upon the designated countryside.”

It was also said the “site is considered to be in an unsustainable and poorly accessible location such that the development will not be adequately served by sustainable modes of travel”.

Other reasons given included the fact that the proposal would have been “dominated” by cars, traffic problems, insufficient information submitted to the planning authority with regards to drainage and a failure to secure provisions for developer contributions.

This comes after residents raised concerns regarding increased traffic, a lack of infrastructure to accommodate the housing and the destruction of green space.

Foreman Homes has been approached for comment but was unable to respond by the time the Daily Echo went to press.
