A SOUTHAMPTON family has raised thousands of pounds for a hospital team who supported them through the loss of their baby daughter.

Jenna and Kevin Roberts, along with their family and three children - Brendon, 14, Leon, 10, and Paisley, two, have tackled a number of fundraising efforts to raise more than £6,000 for the Broadlands Birth Centre at the Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton.

And their efforts have not stopped yet as they’re planning a huge Christmas event to raise more funds.

In January 2020, the couple from Woolston experienced the loss of their baby Mia in the 16th week of Jenna's pregnancy.

Jenna said the ordeal was “heartbreaking for us as a family”.

“The midwives and wider team members at the birth centre support many local families throughout the pregnancy and birthing process," she added.

“The wonderful team of people at the Broadlands Birth Centre helped us through this terrible time including the organisation of our baby girl’s funeral.

“This assistance was provided for free which was of immense value as we were grieving at the time. The birth centre rely significantly on donations from the public, so my husband and I have embarked on a personal mission to raise as much as we can for the centre.

“The donations support the provision of many things; including funerals, memory boxes and other equipment.”

Jenna said she also wants to use their fundraising events as a time to raise awareness of pregnancy loss in a bid to help other families experiencing the same as them.

Jenna and Kevin set up a Facebook group called Miracles In Action in honour of their daughter Mia where they host regular fundraising activities.

On August 14, they hosted a huge fundraiser event at BTC Football Club, Stoneham Lane, which consisted of a charity football match, raffle, stalls, food, music, bouncy castle and more.

On it's website, Broadlands Birth Centre is described as "suitable for women wishing to have a natural birth in a home-like atmosphere".

The centre is midwife-led and has four birthing rooms equipped with birthing aids.
