HUMAN faeces has been found scattered across a Southampton park.

Specialist cleaning teams have been called out to Portswood Rec to deal with 'numerous incidences of human poo'.

Friends of Portswood Rec have since hit out at the 'unpleasant and unnecessary' behaviour at the park off Kitchener Road.

The community group has warned visitors to take care where they tread for their children, pets and their own safety.

Posting on social media earlier this week, the group which aims to create an improved Rec with better facilities, said: "Very disappointed today to receive reports of numerous incidences of human poo on the paths, in the tennis courts and the play area at the Rec.

"This anti-social behaviour is so unpleasant and unnecessary. If you are visiting the Rec and likely to need the toilet, or staying for a while so there’s a possibility you or your children will need the loo, please go prepared with poo bags and dispose of your waste in the litter bins.

"If you are visiting the Rec to enjoy the open space, play area and tennis courts please take care where you tread for your children, pets and your own safety."

Meanwhile, Southampton City Council urges residents to report 'environmental issues' via its website.

A spokesperson for the authority said: "Due to the nature of this incident our specialist cleansing team have been asked to visit the site and clean up any faeces."
