SOUTHAMPTON has been thrust into the TV spotlight after an image of Weston Shore appeared in the latest series of Big Brother.

The picture, which looks across the beach towards the tower blocks, adorns one of the walls in the housemates' bedroom in Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.

The reality show has taken on a twist this time by filling the house with "Britain's most exceptional and extraordinary 18 to 21-year-olds".

Housemates include Hampshire race ace Jeremy Metcalfe and Miss Winchester 2007 Jade Eden.

Eagle-eyed Daily Echo reader Lisa Gawn, from Southampton, spotted the picture while watching the show.

The 40-year-old medical secretary said: "I was convinced the picture on the bedroom wall was of the tower blocks on Weston Shore. I told my two children but they were sure that I wasn't right, so I went onto the Big Brother website and did a virtual tour of the house."

Lisa, of Cecil Road, Woolston, added: "It is great to see a picture of Southamp-ton in the house. It really puts Weston Shore on the map."

Explaining their reasons for choosing the picture, a Big Brother spokesman said: "We felt Southampton represented humanity's struggle against the creeping mundanity of everyday life. Plus Craig David, Scott Mills, Chris Packham and Benny Hill are from there."

Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack airs each night on E4 at 9pm.
