A VILLAGE pub in the heart of St Mary Bourne has undergone a stunning refurbishment.

The quaint pub reopened its doors to locals and visitors alike back in April after new owners, Chris Phillips and Simon Lawrence, secured the free house in January.

The venue is in an enviable central location draped in historic fabric and it is the perfect place to pop in for a pint, a quick lunch or a celebratory dinner.

Inside you will find a Victorian design throughout with heritage colour paint work, and the old carpets have gone, now replaced with custom oak floors and gorgeous rugs.

As the autumn approaches this pub will be the main attraction as three fireplaces have been revealed reading for roaring open fires to keep punters warm.

As well as the tradition pub tables facing on to the Summerhaugh Square an attractive courtyard to the rear has been created for customers to enjoy.

The cuisines, led by Simon and ably supported by sous chef Brandon Storey, focuses on local daily sourcing and offers traditional and affordable food.

The Rifle room and River room have been remodelled into tasteful dining spaces as well as an addition enclosed private dining room.

Although dining can also take place in the bar with no reservations required enabling punters to ‘just pop-in for a pint or two’.

The George is capably managed by Clare Harkin and assistant manger Kayne Hewlett and one per cent of the nett profit of the pub will be donated to village-based groups and organisations.
