A BUILDING firm has apologised for flooding at one of its Southampton developments, claiming it is due to issues at a nearby plot of land.

Residents at the newly-built Spenser flats previously vented their anger in light of “countless” problems.

People living at the complex in Centenary Quay complained about a flooded basement, a broken lift and spreading mould.

Crest Nicholson, the firm behind the development has now issued an apology.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused to residents which is as a result of additional soil levels being added to the land adjacent to Centenary Quay.

“We are now in productive conversations with the new owner of the adjacent land and access has been granted to start remedial works within the next fortnight.

“In the interest of health and safety, the area has been cordoned off and the lift is not in use. It is our priority to get this resolved as soon as possible.”

The Daily Echo has asked for further information and for Crest to clarify what the exact problems are.

Abbey Talbot, a fourth-floor resident of the Keel Road building, says no real action has been taken – apart from a dehumidifier being installed.

The 23-year-old complained of mould and a constant smell of stagnant water.

Meanwhile, Adriana Jarco, 28, who is six months pregnant, struggles up and down the steps each day, often lugging a pushchair because there is no lift.
