TRAIN services are due to be disrupted across Hampshire this weekend as engineering works take place.

South Western Railway has announced that planned engineering works will occur across its network on Saturday and Sunday.

As a result of this, some services are due to be cancelled with buses running as a replacement.

Other services will also be extended to call at more stations than usual.

On Saturday Salisbury to Romsey services via Southampton will not be running and instead buses will run between Salisbury and Southampton Central via Romsey and Redbridge.

Buses are also due to run between Romsey and Eastleigh via Chandlers Ford and Winchester to Poole stopping services will be revised to call additionally at Swaythling and St Denys.

On Sunday Salisbury to Romsey via Southampton services will not run again with buses running between Salisbury and Southampton Central via Romsey and Redbridge and buses running between Romsey and Southampton Central via Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh.

South Western Railway says on its website: "We and our partners at Network Rail are always working hard to maintain and improve the rail network. We try to keep disruption to a minimum by carrying out engineering works at the weekend or over holiday periods where we can, but this isn’t always possible.

"If we need to close train lines for engineering works, we’ll provide buses to replace the affected trains. We will need to alter train services over a wider area, for example to connect with buses, so you should always check whether your journey will be affected."
