A MAN has been charged following a shoplifting incident at a Southampton off licence.

Darrel Charlery has been charged with attempted theft from a shop, common assault, assault by beating of an emergency worker, using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence and criminal damage.

It comes following an incident at the Hops and Grapes off licence on Shirley Road at around 9pm on Friday, September 10.

The 36-year-old of Suffolk Avenue, Southampton, is alleged to have made violent threats to staff after attempting to steal two bottles of alcohol.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear at the city magistrates' court on October 7.
