A HYTHE care home organised its own county show - complete with special feathered and furry visitors.

The team at Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, hosted its own version of the New Forest Show after the real event was cancelled.

Ensuring the scene was set for the ‘Carpathia Grange County Show’, the team decorated the home with flags and bunting, and even designed their own signpost complete with arrows to the villages of Nomansland and Beaulieu.

There was also a special visit from Popell Mobile Farm which brought sheep, guinea pigs, ducks, rabbits and even a pony to interact with the residents. The home’s head chef also hosted a barbecue for everyone to enjoy.

As part of the show, residents selected gifts for family members from stalls which contained crafts homemade by residents ahead of the event. The craft stalls included homemade hair clips, handbags, and fudge.

Residents were also encouraged to share their favourite memories of the New Forest Show.

Mavis O’Donnell said: “I have attended the New Forest Show many times over the years. I loved spending the time with my family and buying crafts from the stalls.

“The Carpathia Grange New Forest Show brought back those memories as I chose gifts for my granddaughters which had been made by other residents.

“My favourite part of the whole day was the pony, Chas, who was very gentle.”
