A MAN has been arrested after a resident confronted someone after their neighbours garage was broken into.
Yesterday, those living at a property on Cage Close, Marchwood were awoken in the early hours after a neighbours' garage was broken into.
One resident then confronted a man outside of the property, detaining him until police could arrive.
Now a 37-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
They have been released under investigation whilst officers make further enquiries.
A number of items, including personal effects have also been recovered and returned to their owners.
New Forest Chief Inspector Helen Andrews, said: “While we are very appreciative of the member of the public in this instance, in detaining a man who we believe to be involved in the offence, we would always urge members of the public to contact police by dialling 999 immediately if a crime is in progress.
“This will ensure the personal safety of local residents and that they don’t inadvertently come to any harm.”
