A CLUB for blind people in the New Forest is under threat of closure after the entire committee quit.

The Lymington branch of the Hampshire Association for the Care of the Blind is facing a bleak future with nobody to run it after its seven-strong committee walked out over the excessive paperwork and bureaucracy they are facing.

More than 200 blind and visually impaired New Forest residents make regular use of the club and are set to miss out if replacement volunteers are not found to replace the committee members.

The club provides monthly get-togethers, home visits, outings, craft classes and a book club.

Ex-chairman Ian Corrie Hill, who has quit after more than 20 years' involvement in the club, said: "We are besieged by bureaucracy, increases in paperwork, out of proportion health and safety regulations, data protection, legal liability and political correctness.

"Our organisation is likely to close due to the lack of volunteers willing to work under these restrictions, plus signing forms accepting liability for their actions."
