A MAN is fighting for his life following an emergency incident in the Shirley area of the city.
Paramedics and an air ambulance team raced to Shirley Road near its junction with Cawte Road this morning.
A man believed to be in his 60s and in a life-threatening condition was rushed to hospital for treatment.
One lane of Shirley Road was blocked off during the emergency callout at around 7.30am.
Police officers were also called to attend the concern for welfare incident, however, the route has since reopened.
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.34am this morning to a medical emergency on Cawte Road. We sent to the scene two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and the critical care car from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance team.
"They were assessing one patient who was in life-threatening condition and the patient was taken to University Hospital Southampton."
