A NEW burger bar could throw open its doors in Southampton city centre – and it’s next to a Burger King.

An empty shop in Above Bar Street could be transformed into a new American-style eatery.

The chain Bangerz ‘n’ Burgerz is expanding along the south coast.

It plans to offer burgers, hotdogs, craft beer and cocktails.

According to business owner, James Stone, the firm is really excited to open in Southampton.

Although unable to confirm an exact opening date for the store, he said he hoped it would be sometime this year and the “sooner the better”.

He added: “We always wanted to get into Southampton.

“We’ve had our eye on the location for nearly two years.”

James said he also plans to recruit local artists from the city to decorate the restaurant.

Opening its first store in 2018, Bangerz ‘n’ Burgerz, has existing sites in Portsmouth, Havant, Southsea, Chichester and Brighton.

The business has now lodged a licensing application with Southampton City Council.

Based on documents submitted under the firm name, Brewz Bar Ltd, it will open from 10am to 11pm from Monday to Sunday.

The proposed restaurant would cater for guests who want to dine in or order via online delivery platforms at lunch and dinner times.

The branch would serve alcoholic as well as soft drinks with meals.

There is a proposal for an outdoor seating area, however, there are no plans to make any structural changes.

Located between Lloyds Bank and Burger King, the restaurant would only occupy the first floor.

The basement would be used as a storage area.

The site in Above Bar Street is currently boarded up and was previously used by student accommodation firm, Park House.

In a recent Tripadvisor review for the Bangerz ‘n’ Burgerz restaurant in Portsmouth, one user said: “Amazing burger best I’ve ever tasted – will definitely order again from here and recommend to all my family and friends.”
