SPORTING Memories Clubs in Eastleigh are welcoming new members after being able to meet face-to-face again.

In March 2020, Sporting Memories Clubs in the town were suspended due to the pandemic, but now, members, staff and volunteers say they are "delighted" that they have been able to meet in person once again.

At Velmore Leisure Centre, adults over 50 come together to talk about sport, find companionship, re-live positive memories and take part in gentle physical activity.

Some who attend may be living with dementia, depression, social isolation or other long-term conditions but the club says everyone has one thing in common, "a love of talking about and remembering sport".

Now, volunteers are looking to welcome new members to join up and come to the clubs meetings which take place between 4 and 6pm every Monday.

Volunteer at the Velmore Sporting Memories Club, John, said: "Now that our doors are open again, the kettle is on and we are very much welcoming new members. I initially got involved as my Dad attended similar sessions in Scotland and really looked forward to them.

"I wanted to help people in the same situation locally. I really enjoy the 2-hour weekly group meeting. Everyone is great fun and every session is different.”

Those who are interested in the clubs and want to know more can do so by emailing Project Manager Kate Budd at kate@thesmf.co.uk.
