A WINCHESTER alleged double murderer has delayed entering pleas because a further medical report is needed.

James Conan, 64, is accused of the murder of partner Kirsty O'Connell, 21, and their son Patrick, four, at their flat in Woolford Close, Stanmore, last August.

Kirsty died of multiple stab wounds and compression to the neck, and Patrick was asphyxiated.

Conan appeared at Winchester Crown Court today, when he had been due to enter a plea.

Nigel Lickley QC, defending, said a medical report had been produced but now a second one is required and that would take another four-six weeks.

An earlier hearing heard that Conan, a former security guard, is facing the prospect of major heart surgery.

Judge Michael Brodrick, Recorder of Winchester, remanded Conan in custody at the end of the ten-minute hearing.

The case is currently listed for trial at Winchester on June 2.
