WE want justice for our son.

That was the passionate plea from the heart-broken parents of Peter Lawrence who died last weekend after a night out at a bar in Port Solent turned to tragedy.

David and Irene Lawrence have flown from their home in Spain as the grief-stricken family comfort each over the loss of the popular 37-year-old father-of-one.

Peter, who lived in Titchfield Common, died after an incident involving security staff at Lloyds No 1. An investigation, codenamed Operation Marco is continuing.

Today David, 59, and Irene, 57, were set to visit the scene of the tragedy and lay a floral tribute.

They have asked family and friends to join them on the boardwalk at Port Solent at 3pm.

Posters publicising the tribute had been put round the Southampton area where Peter had many friends. Hundreds were expected to be at Port Solent to pay their respects.

Officers were also set to be there in the hope that more witnesses might come forward.

David and Irene are staying at the Bitterne home of their eldest son, 39-year-old Mark Lawrence.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Echo the couple told how they received the phone call that was to shatter their lives. It was from their 26-year-old daughter, Paige Lawrence who had been with Peter at the Port Solent bar.

David said: "We got the call from her at about 3am on Sunday. She said 'Peter is dead, Peter is dead'."

Still stunned with disbelief, the couple said: "We just want justice for Peter."

They last saw him at Christmas when he flew to see them in Spain.

David said: "We had such a happy time and his last words to us when we said goodbye at the airport were - 'I will see you soon'."

Peter had hoped one day to live in Spain and start a business chartering boats.

Irene said: "He was just a very lively person. When he went into a bar and restaurant he would just started talking to people and it was as if he had known them for 20 years. He was so likeable."

He doted on his eight-month-old son, Fyn and Mark said: "Peter was looking forward to bringing up his son who he talked about all the time.

"His death was senseless, heartless and cold blooded. I would like to stress that Peter was not fighting. He left the bar without causing a fuss."

The family have, through the Daily Echo, appealed for more witnesses to come forward to help piece together what happened on that tragic night.

Mark said: "There were many more people at the scene and we desperately need them all to be brave and contact the police and tell them exactly what happened no matter how insignificant it might seem.

"We only want the truth to be known and we want to try to help prevent other families from suffering the utter devastation and sadness that we are experiencing."

Four men were arrested by police on suspicion of manslaughter and bailed until March.
