POLICE were today continuing their investigations into a ten-car motorway pile-up in Hampshire last night.

A total of 18 people were involved and firefighters had to release seven people who were trapped in the smash.

Officers said 11 were injured, two of them suffering serious but not life threatening injuries in the accident in atrocious weather conditions on the M3 near Chandler's Ford after 8pm.

The motorway was closed between junction 12 at Chandler's Ford and junction 14, the interchange with the M3. Diversions put in place until the motorway re-opened five hours later.

A police spokesman said: "The weather is a factor in the investigation. Motorists should always drive according to the conditions that they see."

The cars involved included three Vauxhalls, a Volkswagen Golf, a BMW, a Mini, two Renault Clios, a Citroen and a Volvo.
