TODAY, October 1 is World Vegetarian Day, and if you want to opt for a “greener” side of life but don’t know where to dine locally, we’ve got you covered.

There are a range of restaurants across the town that are vegetarian and vegan-friendly, but we have collated three restaurants that offer a purely meat-free menu.

Mad Cucumber

7, The Triangle, Bournemouth.

“Food to satisfy even non vegetarians.”

That’s how vegan restaurant Mad Cucumber has been described in a recent review on TripAdvisor.

Mad Cucumber was established in 2013 by couple Kamil and Ewelina and offers “100 per cent” vegan food.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, specials, and sweet treats, along with a range of drinks.

Mad Cucumber also boasts a smoothie bar and makes a variety of celebration cakes.

One review on the restaurant’s website reads: “My favourite vegan restaurant in Dorset by a mile - Mad Cucumber is such a great place.”

Mad Cucumber is open 10-4pm Monday to Thursday, 10-6pm on Friday, 9-6pm on Saturday, and 9-4pm on Sunday.

Twelve Eatery

12, The Triangle, Bournemouth.

This popular restaurant is well-known for its organic approach to plant-based food and delectable cocktails.

Founders, Dalton Mello and Greg Rush first opened Twelve in 2018 and have since received global recognition for their work and offering at the restaurant.

Earlier this year, the 2021 Travellers’ Choice Awards named it as one of the best vegan restaurants in the world.

Speaking in July, Greg said:  "Being named as one of the best in the world is just incredible and we are so proud.”

Twelve is centred around exciting and experimental dishes, with a focus on nutrition and great taste.

Twelve is open from 12-10pm, Monday to Thursday, 12-11pm on Friday, 10-11pm on Saturday, and 10-10pm on Sunday.

Mighty Wieners

23 Poole Hill, Bournemouth.

Inspired by their travels across the US, Mighty Wieners owners Kate Butterworth and her husband Chris Pepper opened the eatery with an aim of “smashing pre-conceptions of what people believe vegan food should be.”

As the name suggests, Mighty Wieners serves vegan ‘wieners’ lashed with a plethora of toppings.

Impressive burgers are also available, along with sides, salads, and dirty fries.

Kate and Chris extended their offering earlier this year with the introduction of Mighty Pizza, which serves American-style, junk food vegan pizzas, so there is plenty of finger-licking food for you to choose from.

Kate said: “Nobody else is doing this in Bournemouth, or even really across the UK. We are bringing the flavours of Mighty Wieners to the pizza eating experience."

Mighty Wieners is open from 10-9pm Tuesday to Thursday, 10-10pm Friday and Saturday, and 10-8pm on Sunday.
