DID you attend the same Southampton school as someone famous? 

Whether you sat next to them in class or attended the same school a few years later, you may have rubbed shoulders with a future star. 

Here are some of the famous faces that attended Southampton schools and colleges. 

Craig David

It's no secret that Craig David, a singer, songwriter, rapper, DJ and record producer, was born in and grew up in Southampton.

The RnB star grew up in the Holyrood estate and attended Bellemoor School, now known as Upper Shirley High School. 

David later attended Southampton City College.

His success in the music industry is not just limited to his numerous UK Top 40 Singles and UK Top 40 albums (of which there are 20 and seven, respectively).

Craig David was announced on the Queen’s New Year Honours List to receive an MBE in recognition of his services to music last December. 

Benny Hill

The English actor, comedian, singer and writer was born in Southampton on January 21 1924.

Alfred Hawthorne "Benny" Hill attended Taunton’s School (Richard Taunton Sixth Form College) during his time in the city. 

After leaving school, Hill worked at Woolworths and as a milkman in Southampton, prior to his career as a bridge operator, a driver and a drummer, before becoming assistant stage manager with a touring revue.

He is best remembered for his television programme The Benny Hill Show

Foxes

Louisa Rose Allen, known professionally as Foxes, was born in Southampton.

The singer-songwriter has had many chart-topping hits, from featuring on Zedd's 'Clarity' to her own songs, 'Youth' and 'Let Go for Tonight.'

But before she shot to fame, Allen grew up in Swaythling and St Denys and was a pupil at St Denys Primary School, Cantell School, and Eastleigh College.

She started writing music when she was 14 years old and reached the final of a local talent competition in 2009.

Laura Carmichael

The film and television actress who is known for her role as Lady Edith Crawley in Downton Abbey attended Shirley Junior School. 

Carmichael, who was born in Southampton, later attended The Mountbatten School and Peter Symonds College in Winchester before landing the role of  Lady Edith Crawley in 2010.

Will Champion

Coldplay drummer Will Champion was born and raised in Southampton, close to the University of Southampton.

Champion was a pupil at Portswood Primary School, went to secondary school at Cantell Maths and Computing College, and later attended Peter Symonds College.

He then studied anthropology at University College London where he met his future bandmates Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland and Guy Berryman.
