A SOUTHAMPTON pensioner caught speeding has been banned from the roads after he failed to give his details to police.

David Wallace Moncriefe Scott was caught speeding on Maybray King Way in Southampton on July 20 last year.

The 79-year-old was travelling at 35mph in a Honda Index, exceeding the speed limit of 30mph.

He then failed to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of the vehicle, the court heard.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) and a s172 (requirement to provide driver details) were sent to the defendant on August 5.

A reminder letter was sent to his address on September 9.

Scott failed to provide "an acceptable response".

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, he pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of one count of speeding and one count of failing to provide information to Hampshire Constabulary.

Scott, of Beech Road, Southampton, was disqualified from driving for six months and fined £200.
