A SOUTHAMPTON rapper who has amassed millions of views on TikTok has released his new single 'Maybe' today.

Victor Oluwatowoju, 22, grew up in Millbrook and Bassett.

Known professionally as V.I.C, he started rapping and songwriting from a young age but his music career took off when he started posting his songs on TikTok last year.

V.I.C said: "I've always been interested in music since I was young. I had so many songs in my head but when it came to writing songs I couldn't do it.

"I am a big fan of J Cole, and watching him made me realise that this is what I want to do this with my life. I started writing one day about six years ago and I didn't stop.

"TikTok has been the game changer in my career so far. I started my TikTok account early 2020, before lockdown. Prior to that I was on Instagram but it doesn't work as well.

"I put my freestyles that I was doing onto TikTok and the one named ‘What I Do’ blew up and gained around 200,000 views."

Since that day, V.I.C, who now lives in London, has released five songs, one of which 'A Teen' caught the attention of Columbia Records and Fifa, who added the track to the game's soundtrack alongside the likes of Sam Fender and Swedish House Mafia.

His newest song 'Maybe' is the next step before the release of his EP.

V.I.C said: "It's called 'Maybe' as most of my songs relate to my life, and it's a song that is showing how life is, like when we think 'what will happen if I do this?' and 'if I go for this interview I could get the job.'

"I feel like a lot of people relate to it because everybody, at some point, was the kid with the dream.

"My debut EP 'Bedroom Chronicles' is set to release in the New Year. It features all the songs I made in my bedroom, that's how it all started.

"It's the journey of a boy who didn't know how to make music."

'Maybe' can be listened to on all online platforms, including Spotify.
