A former Southampton hair dressers and barbers has been transformed by a new fish and chips shop.

The premises on Civic Centre road has become a new take out restaurant after plans were approved by civic chiefs following the submission of a planning application to Southampton City Council.

Sib's Fish and Chips has replaced Southampton Hair Salon and Barbers but the restaurant is yet to open to the public until further plans and assessments have been submitted to the council.

The restaurant is situated between to Mint Dosa, a South Indian restaurant, and KFC.

Two full-time and one part-time employees have been taken on.

The plans were approved last month however no cooking or preparation of hot food that creates odours shall take place until a written scheme for the control of noise, fumes and odours from extractor fans and other equipment have been submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority

A second application has since been submitted regarding an extraction flue and is currently awaiting decision.

A risk assessment was carried out regarding odour from the restaurant's kitchen.

The system consists of a bank of filters within a discard unit.

It contains a grease filter, a particle filter, a pre-protection filter and an activated carbon filter, which aims to prevent odour.

A silencer will also be fitted and ductwork will be mounted on rubber mountings to dispel any noise through the building.
