A MAN who failed to pay less than £4 rail fare has been fined hundreds of pounds.
Thomas Holdbrook travelled by train to Southampton Central Station on April 20 and failed to pay £3.30 rail fare.
The court heard how the 22-year-old had intent to avoid the payment.
Appearing at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, his verdict was proven in absence.
Holdbrook, of Players Crescent, Totton was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £3.30.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £160.
