MORE than £6m is to be spent revamping some of Southampton most historic venues - but which ones are set to be spruced up?

Well, quite a lot, according to the city council.

Civic chiefs have earmarked 53 monuments and venues, including the Bargate and Holyrood Church, to get a share of the £6.7m revamp fund.

Details of the work and exact timescales are yet to be confirmed, but a full list has been released.

The announcement comes as earlier this month Southampton was named as one of eight places in the running for the title of the UK City of Culture 2025.
