PREPARE yourself for a frightfully fun half term this week with Halloween hijinks happening at venues run by Hampshire Cultural Trust.

From Bursledon to Winchester and elsewhere in Hampshire there will be late night openings, terrifying trails, spine-chilling storytelling and creepy crafts for everyone to enjoy throughout October.

Here’s what you can enjoy (or fear) near Southampton.

Frightful fun at Bursledon Windmill

Make-and-take drop-in weekend – Saturday 23 and Sunday, October 24

10am to 3pm

Visit Bursledon Windmill and enjoy spooky craft and nature activities that can be completed at the mill or at home.

Warm up and soak up the views with a hot chocolate and marshmallows as well as spooky cupcakes, available to purchase on the day.

This costs £4 per child (one off charge, exempt from annual admission).

The Woodland in Autumn – Wednesday, October 27

10am - 2pm

Enjoy family make-and-take crafts and explore the Woodland Trail for £5 per child (one off charge, exempt from annual admission).

Spooky mill silent disco Halloween party – Friday, October 29

5.30pm - 8pm

Grab your dancing shoes and look out for ghostly goings-on at this special Halloween party, which includes snacks and drinks.

This costs £6.50 per person (one off charge, exempt from annual admission).

Perilous pastimes at Winchester City Museum

Lighting the Home Through the Ages – Monday 25 and Wednesday, October 27

Venture further afield to the City Museum to have all your questions answered.

Have you ever wondered what type of candle the Romans used in their home?

Or what objects the Anglo-Saxons used to bring light into their dwelling?

Find out how lighting in the home has changed through the ages and hear interesting facts from the museum team and get up close to objects.

This activity is included in admission.

Courtlye Musick – Saturday 23 October

11.30am to 3pm

Visit the City Museum and enjoy listening to Tudor music performed by Courtlye Musick.

Let them transport you back in time to the Tudor era and see what instruments would have been used.

This is included in admission cost.

Paper lanterns – Tuesday 26 and Thursday, October 28

11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm

Delve into a craft session to make your own paper lantern to take home.

Craft a spooky creation, or be inspired by an object in the museum.

Included in admission. Suitable for ages five plus. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Spooky arts and crafts – Sunday, October 31

11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm

Celebrate Halloween with creepy craft sessions and make your own paper plate pumpkin decoration to take home.
