A SOUTHAMPTON builder has been landed with a bill of more than £40,000 after failing to pay the correct amount of tax.

Raymond Leslie Petch has been branded a deliberate tax defaulter by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Trading as R Petch Groundworks, he has been given a penalty of £43,488.69.

The total amount of tax on which his penalties are based was £86,977.39.

His address is given as Thorold Road, in the Bitterne Park area of Southampton, as of September 22.

The list states the period of default as December 1 2014 to October 22, 2019.

The Echo has been unable to contact Mr Petch.

A deliberate tax defaulter is someone judged to have deliberately failed to comply with their tax obligations or who have made deliberate errors in their tax returns.

HMRC has stressed that each entry on the list is specific to the default dates referred to.

Meanwhile, the address is the one associated with the person at the time of the default.

It warns that the published person may have changed their behaviour and may no longer be at the published address.
