THE best fish and chip shops in the UK have been named – but not a single Southampton store has made the cut.
In fact, the only Hampshire retailer to be named in Sarson's prestigious list is Whistler's, based in Emsworth.
Despite the city's vast offering, none made the 137-strong guide, which is published annually.
All shops listed in the guide are participants in the NFFF Quality Accreditation scheme, supported by Sarson’s Vinegar.
This scheme identifies fish and chip shops that have undergone a thorough assessment of the premises and equipment, the working practices, hygiene standards and management controls, together with of course, the quality and taste of the fish and chips.
Catherine Martin, brand manager for Sarson’s said: “We congratulate all the fish and chip shop operators across the UK that are featured in this year’s NFFF 2021 guide.
"As the UK’s number 1 vinegar brand, we share the NFFF’s value for the culture of Fish & Chips and are delighted to support this badge of quality recognising the best fish and chip shops, who work tirelessly to serve one of our nation’s favourite dishes."
