DISRUPTIONS and delays are expected across Hampshire railways today and over the weekend.

Engineers will be conducting work across the South Western Railway network.

It will affect trains at night more than in the day, but all passengers are being urged to check timetables.

This map shows where the disruptions will be all day Friday, and just on Sunday.

Here is everything you need to know:

Temporary changes to how far in advance railway timetables will be confirmed

Network Rail has temporarily changed how far in advance train timetables can be confirmed following ongoing problems with industry planning processes.

Train times and tickets are usually confirmed and available for you to plan and book you journeys up to 12 weeks before you travel.

Now, train times will be confirmed and finalised up to 6 weeks before you travel.

A spokesperson said: "We are sorry that this may affect your ability to plan ahead and we will keep you updated on our progress to resolve this issue, which affects all train operators.

"For more information about booking your journey, please visit our Advance Tickets page."

Overnight trains

Engineering works affect trains at night more than during the day.

If you are planning to travel after 11pm or before 5am then check train times carefully, to make sure that you can complete your journey safely.

Unscheduled delays

Sometimes trains are altered at short notice for reasons beyond control.

Check the SWR live travel updates page for up-to-date information on any changes or cancellations.

National Rail Enquiries can provide detailed information about train delays and cancellations anywhere on the network.

Luggage on replacement buses

If engineering works are affecting then replacement buses, or even taxis, may be used.

There is no room on replacement buses or taxis to carry prams and pushchairs that do not fold, cycles, animals (with the exception of assistance dogs) or bulky luggage.
