THE weather outside is cold, some may say frightful – which can mean only one thing.
Christmas is well and truly on its way, and the city already has some fantastic events lined up.
We have rounded them up for you to cure the blues from the ice rink being cancelled for the second year.
Go! Southampton and the city council will also be announcing further events next week:
Christmas Light Switch On, November 18
The city centre will officially feel festive, as this event kicks off the festivities.
Join from 5pm for an evening of fun as the streets come alive.
Across the city centre you will find costumed characters roaming the streets, live theatre performances, local music acts and more before the countdown to turning the lights on begins.
Southampton Christmas Market, November 18-December 23
It is back!
Stalls will line the streets once again, selling delicious baked goods, pretty gifts and more.
Visitors have a choice of two bar areas offering live entertainment and German draught beer, mulled wine and winter warmers like hot chocolate.
The market is open 10am to 8pm. Food and beverage stalls open from 10am to 10pm.
Winter Watercolour Calendars, November 20
Back by popular demand, these calendars are great fun to make at Southampton Art Gallery.
Explore and experiment with new techniques using watercolour and inks. This workshop will run from 10am through to 1pm and is suitable for those aged 8yrs+.
A number of other Christmassy events will follow in the later weeks.
Christmas Makers Market, December 4-19
Join the team at God's House Tower for the first ever Christmas Makers Market this December.
Whether you’re looking for a unique present for someone special, the perfect stocking filler or even a festive treat for yourself, get into the seasonal spirit and explore our carefully curated selection of unique and hand-crafted gifts lovingly made by local artists and makers including jewellery, prints, ceramics and much more.
Fawlty Towers Christmas Show, December 6-7
This Mayflower show is likely to be a hit.
It’s Christmas at Fawlty Towers, but Basil’s finding it a challenge to get into the Christmas spirit: he booked a father Christmas who hasn’t turned up (and Manuel is a very poor substitute); there’s rat poison on the turkey so he has to turn to a local chef for help (while keeping the health inspector at bay); he still hasn’t hung the decorations despite promising Sybil it would be done before dinner; and to make things worse, there’s a German Christmas Market taking place next door.
Join Basil, Sybil and Manuel for a hilarious seasonal celebration featuring favourite moments from the TV series with a special Christmas twist.
Chuggmas, December 11
Nighclub Suburbia is inviting you to celebrate Chuggmas with ChuggaBoom!
It is hosting three massive ChuggaBoom shows with Dream Awake and Asleep At The Helm.
This will be the biggest (non-isolated) show ChuggaBoom will have ever put on, so expect plenty of inflatable pits and general madness.
Children's Christmas Special at Bursledon Brickworks Museum, December 12
The museum's smallest but sweetest event of the year is dedicated to everyone who truly believes in magic.
Father Christmas will be taking a day out from his very busy December schedule and will hand out gifts to his smallest fans.
Bring the family, bring the dog and enjoy the magic of Christmas at the Brickworks.
