MORE than three quarters of Southampton residents don't have plans in place for their funerals, research has shown.
According to a study by Distinct Cremations, of those taking part in a survey in Southampton, 75% said they do not have a plan in place for their own funeral, despite 63% believing it is up to everyone to organise their own.
The research, which highlights Brits’ changing perceptions of funerals, also found out that just 29% of Southampton residents agreed with the statement that funerals are outdated, compared to the national average of 40%, but almost half felt that funerals cost too much.
A total of 43% do not have savings in place for emergencies, and 46% could not afford to pay for the funeral of a loved one and would need to resort to alternative ways of paying for a funeral, outside of savings, inheritance or pre-paid plans already in place.
