A COLLEGE student has received a Commissioner's Commendation for his support for a scout group.
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Tom Hughes was awarded the accolade for his "outstanding support and commitment" to the 3rd Portchester Scout Group.
He is the youngest person in the Fareham East District to receive the commendation with only three others awarded in the district's history.
Tom, who previously attended Portchester Community School, is a Young Team Leader for 3rd Portchester Scouts and organises the troop’s programme of events, manages communications with parents and Scouts, and plans the troop’s camps.
He was awarded the Commissioner’s Commendation by District Commissioner for Fareham East, Mike McHugh, and Group Scout Leader, Peter Leach, who nominated Hughes for the Commendation.
Tom said: "Leaders choose to volunteer because they want to help develop the skills and see the growth within younger generations, so to receive recognition for how I’ve helped children in my community is truly amazing.”
