THE Three Maids Hill bridge over the A34 in Winchester will be closed all this weekend to allow for concrete repairs.

Whilst carrying out repairs to the bridge, which carries the A272 over the A34, the National Highways team, previously called Highways England, have found extensive damage to the concrete hidden beneath the surface, which must be repaired.

To carry out this work, the bridge will be closed in both directions until 6am on Monday.

Full weekends closures are needed due to the time required for the materials to harden properly.

During the closure, the following signed diversions will be in place:

  • Eastbound bridge – traffic will be diverted north on the A34 to Bullington Cross, then back south on the A34 to either continue their journey or exit for Christmas Hill (Worthy Down/South Wonston/Sutton Scotney)
  • Westbound bridge – traffic will be diverted south on the A34 to the Winnall roundabout, then back north on the A34 to either continue their journey or exit for A272/Stud Lane/Andover Road North

National Highways has advised all motorists to follow the signed diversion routes as they have been chosen with both suitability and safety in mind.

The bridge will also be closed from 9pm on Friday November 12 through to 6am on Sunday November 14.

The bridge will be reopened early on November 14 to allow for Remembrance Day services in the area.
