A CAR has crashed on Terbourba Way in Southampton causing substantial damage.

A police investigation has been launched following an alleged hit and run incident last night.

Officers were called to the junction of Romsey Road and Terbourba Way where a BMW had mounted the central reservation and crashed into a pedestrian crossing.

Three people were seen fleeing from the scene of the incident at around 10.30pm.

A post on social media from the Hampshire police roads unit said: "The occupants of this vehicle didn't fancy hanging around after causing quite substantial damage to roadside furniture on Tebourba Way, Soton - Vehicle recovered and enquiries underway."

A police spokesperson added: "We were called at 22.21pm yesterday (November 7) to a single-vehicle collision on Tebourba Way, at the junction with Romsey Road, which resulted in damage to a pedestrian crossing post and extensive damage to the car.

"Three occupants of the vehicle left the scene shortly afterwards and officers are conducting enquiries to find them."
