Just a stone's throw from the waterfront, this cafe has something for everyone.

6. Uptons of Bassett, Winchester Road

Originally and still is a butcher shop, this cafe turns into a steak bar/bistro in the evenings.

It sells locally sourced free range meats, and the food looks incredible!

5. The Art House, Above Bar Street

The Art House is a performance venue and social centre in the heart of Southampton, offering live music, performance poetry, storytelling and comedy as well as workshops and classes, drop-in community cafe events, a regular community pantry and a meeting space for groups.

But it also boasts a brilliant cafe area with an extensive menu.

Paul M, reviewer, posted: "Lots of gluten-free and vegan options to choose from. Service was really gentle and friendly. Snacks great. Coffee really splendid - a different taste to the high street chains."

4. Halladay's Team Rooms, Bedford Place

This establishment has the best coffee in Southampton, according to TripAdvisor.

Not only is the food commendable, but the decor is stunning.

The menu ranges from pancakes and yoghurt bowls to a Full English.

A reviewer said: "They have a wide selection of hot drinks and everything is made fresh. The carrot cake was absolutely amazing and all the other cakes looked delicious. The service was friendly."

3. Cafe Thrive, Hanover Buildings

Cafe Thrive says it is a place for "nutritious and delicious food, good coffee and a relaxed atmosphere".

The menu has plenty of options for those with dietary requirements, including vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and more.

One reviewer said: "The prices were affordable and the food was delivered quickly and piping hot. A great selection of tasty vegan stages for all.

2. Docks Coffee, Oxford Street

This cafe wouldn't be in second place if it didn't boast a menu full of delicious food, catering to those with dietary requirements.

But what makes it stand out from the crowd is its artwork on lattes. It also serves fantastic sweet treats.

Reviewer Roman V said: "Lovely place for an early fix! Came in on a sunny day. Good location and coffee is as good as last time i was here (2years ago). Perfect! Friendly staff."
