IT’S a venue that has seen the greatest show business stars grace its stage since the 1920s.
The Mayflower, formerly known as the Empire and Gaumont, has seen them all.
The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Queen are just a few who have taken centre stage.
This selection of pictures were all taken outside when the venue was the Gaumont.
One of the photographs, taken in 1975, shows fans queuing for tickets to the Bay City Rollers.
In another picture, taken in 1980, we see a huddle of fans camping out to buy tickets to see Genesis.
The band was in town for a one-night-only gig.
Fans could also be seen camping out for tickets to see Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin
In 1985 a Russian dance troupe that was performing at the theatre took to the rooftop to pose for pictures with the Civic Centre clock tower in the background.
