A MAN has been rushed to hospital after a reported stabbing in Southampton city centre.

A man in his 40s is in a serious condition after suffering injuries consistent with being stabbed, according to police.

It comes following an assault in Ascupart Street in the St Mary's area of Southampton at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

Officers have been carrying out investigations today, however, no one has been arrested.

Detective Inspector Claire Shawley said: “This was a very serious assault that happened in the middle of the day. The injured man was found in the street, and we believe someone must have seen what had happened to him and who else was involved.

“If you were in the Golden Grove area yesterday afternoon and have any information at all that could assist us, please get in touch.

“We have been in the area today carrying out house to house enquiries and officers will continue to carry out patrols in the area this afternoon. If you have any concerns or any information that can help, please do approach them.”
