It was a busy Black Friday in Southampton, with lots of shoppers out in the city centre looking for the latest deals.

Westquay and the Christmas markets were particularly busy. The Daily Echo spoke to some of the shoppers there to find out how their Black Friday had been.

Tina Street from Southampton said: "I am here with the girls and it's a brilliant day too. I am Christmas shopping at TK max and JD sports today for the family. Very happy to see my friends and shopping with them.”

Rebecca Lane, Laura Buckingham and Katie Barnes were all out shopping and said: ‘We’re shopping for everyone and everybody. Two of us have 3 kids. We were here on Wednesday and we’ve come back. I haven’t got a list of things I’m getting but my youngest has got a PS5.’

Francesca Lavery and Arwen McCarthy said: " we are out today and shopped so much stuff from Primark. We have not one but three big bags from the store. We got Christmas pyjamas and are very excited to wear them."

The Daily Echo also spoke to Christmas Market staff, as well as shoppers.

Christmas hut staff members, Sadie Merritt and Lennie Tabone said: "The Black Friday deals had made no difference to our sales. The locals are still coming and support the small business. This year is very different from the year before. During lockdown, everyone was miserable and sad, they didn't get to spend a lot of money. But now, things are getting better, people are happier. We are just grateful to share our small business products and services with the crowd.”

One of the vendors of Luxury Cheese and Chutney’s said “Business has been good today, really busy!”
