THIS traditional and friendly local serves up one ground-breaking menu.

Visitors to The White Horse in Netley Marsh are given a very warm welcome and a seriously sizzling steak.

The pub, on the edge of the New Forest, is renowned for its lava rock steaks.

Proprietor Sophie Hingston, who has been at the helm for eight years, told the Daily Echo: "We offer a rare kind of dining where the steak is cooked at a high temperature on a volcanic rock which itself has been heated to 440 degrees.

"Steaks are delivered to the table seared and the food stays hot throughout the meal. It is cooked exactly how the customer likes it on these rocks, creating a diverse and fun dining experience."

Daily Echo:

It's not just the steaks which keep diners coming back. The pub serves a wide range of food, including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options, as well as daily specials which compliment each season.

There's everything from winter warmers such as award-winning faggots and mashed potato with fresh seasonal vegetables to lighter summer scorchers, plus hand battered bistro cod and chips, 8oz handmade beef burger and of course homemade Sunday Roasts. That's all served up with drinks including a premium range of spirits, cask real ales and lager, more than 20 gins, festive mulled wine and hot soft drinks.

Daily Echo:

The pub, winner of Trip Advisor awards for the past six years, has been part of the community for more than 100 years and was situated next to Ashby's brewery.

It remains a hub to this day with events including a weekly meat draw, monthly live music band nights and tributes from Elton John to Elvis. Coming up this month are the annual Christmas Carol Evening beloved by villagers with live pianist and saxophonist on December 23 and a New Year's Eve party with an amazing tribute to Sir Elton John.

The White Horse's beer garden looks out over the local church and is a lovely sun trap in summer, while it also offers a covered pergola, heaters and fairy lights for the more chilly weather.
