A BCP Council spokesperson has since said: “In regards to the emergency closure of Poole Town lifting bridge earlier today (Friday December 3), investigations are ongoing and engineers are working to fix the fault.
“The closure of the bridge will now extend into the weekend. We will provide further updates as soon as they are available.
“A diversion route will be signposted via Twin Sails Bridge. Residents are advised to allow extra time for their journeys this weekend and to plan ahead.”
They also said pedestrian and maritime traffic will be unaffected.
It is still unclear what the fault is.
