A SOUTHAMPTON man died in hospital after falling out of his chair while asleep, an inquest opening heard.
Peter John Fowell was asleep in his chair at his home in Paynes Road and was admitted to Southampton General Hospital on November 16.
The 89-year-old was suffering a chesty cough. He died in hospital on November 17.
An inquest has now been opened into his death at Winchester Coroner’s Court by area coroner Jason Pegg.
A cause of death has been given as Type 2 respiratory failure, bronchopneumonia, oral pharyngeal dysphagia, frailty, fall, previous stroke and alcohol use.
Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing for a full inquest to take place on May 11, next year.
