A man from Blackfield died at his home after he had received palliative care in hospital, an inquest heard.
Michael Kenneth Curry, of St Michaels Close, died on November 11 following a period in Southampton General Hospital.
Area coroner Jason Pegg opened the inquest into the 82-year-old's death at Winchester Coroner's Court.
The preliminary cause of death was given as Malignant Mesothelioma.
The full inquest into Mr Curry's death was adjourned to March 15 next year.
