IT IS traffic chaos in some parts of the city today after Storm Barra battered Southampton.

Weston Shore, along Weston Parade, has been closed to traffic after the road and surrounding areas were flooded today.

Deep water has made it nearly impossible for drivers to make their way through and the road has now been blocked off, with motorists told to turn around.

The water stretches across the road and across the grassland opposite the shore.

Daily Echo:

It's alright for some though, as dozens of seagulls can be seen paddling in the flood water.

It comes after flood warnings and alerts have been put in place in Southampton and Hampshire as Storm Barra hits.

Warnings have been put in place for Beaulieu and Fareham, with alerts in place for Mansbridge, Riverside Park, Hamble, Southampton Water, Milford on Sea, Lymington, and Beaulieu estuary, the Government's flood team says.

Daily Echo:

Warnings mean "flooding is expected", with alerts predicting "flooding is possible".

This is due to this afternoon's tide being "higher than normal" with "unsettled water" due to Storm Barra.

These high tides hit at around 12.41pm and 2.34pm.
