UPDATE: All lanes are now cleared between J3 and J2 of the M27.

A VEHICLE has burst into flames on a Hampshire motorway near Southampton.

Two lanes of the M27 are blocked following a vehicle fire on the westbound hard shoulder.

Motorists are being warned of heavy delays of around 50-minutes.

The incident happened between J3 and J2 at Ower.

The vehicle fire is reportedly now out, however, traffic is building.

Fire crews were called to the incident at 7.23am this morning. 

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue told the Echo that one car had been "75% destroyed by fire". 

Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet were used to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters from Eastleigh and Redbridge were in attendance but left the scene just after 8am.
