A MAN has suffered serious injuries after a serious crash in the New Forest overnight.

The A31 near Minstead is currently closed on the eastbound carriageway, heading towards Southampton.

This comes after police were called to the site of the crash at 11pm. 

It is said that a white Honda Civic and a green Ford Focus were involved. 

The driver of the Ford, a 69-year-old man from Chineham suffered serious injuries. 

He has been taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, the road has been closed for seven hours eastbound between Ringwood and the M27.

Hampshire Police are on the scene and the road is expected to remain closed through the morning period.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers investigating the collision are keen to hear from anyone who can assist their enquiries.

"They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who has dash cam footage of either of the vehicles in the moments prior to the collision.

"Anyone with information should call 101, quoting the reference 44210517055."

National Highways said: "Traffic is being diverted via the A338 northbound into Salisbury, then onto the A36 eastbound to M27 J2."
