Winchester City Council's planning committee have approved a new dwelling to be built in a garden in Littleton.

The application was a resubmission as the building was considered to be too large in the original application, at Broad View, Littleton.

The original plan had 12 objecting letters send to the city council with five for the revised plan. Supporting letters were also sent, with eight for the original and two for the revised.

Objections were presented in person by neighbours of the property, Sandy Kinninmonth and Marc Lyne.

Mr Kinninmonth told the planning committee that the planned building was still too large.

He said: “The building would lead to a shocking loss of privacy and amenity for neighbours.”

Mr Lyne agreed, saying: “We have an objection to the sheer bulk of this proposal.” Both objectors noted that the application didn't have any supporting representation in person from the applicant or an agent.

The height of the building at the eastern elevation was reduced by 0.3 metres to seven metres.

On the western elevation, the height was reduced from eight metres to 7.3 metres and the overall length of the building has been reduced from approximately 14 metres to 13 metres.

Members of the planning committee were satisfied with the proposal and approved it unanimously.

Cllr Jane Rutter, who chaired the planning committee meeting, said: “I am content that the officers have worked hard with the applicant to ensure this proposal is not overbearing.”
