EMERGENCY services rushed to a Southampton road last night following reports of a car fire.
Police and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service arrived at Hill Lane in Southampton at 6.55pm yesterday.
A silver car was fully ablaze and is said to have been 90 per cent damaged by the flames.
Police were on scene to assist fire crews from St Mary's and Redbridge with traffic management.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "St Mary’s and Redbridge firefighters were called to a car alight near the roundabout on the Hill Lane junction with Burgess Road at 18:50 last night.
"The vehicle suffered 90 per cent damage from the fire which was extinguished using one hose reel with one firefighter wearing a breathing apparatus set.
"The Highways Agency and Hampshire Constabulary partners were also called to the scene to close the road as a fuel spillage was cleared up.
"Crews left the scene following the stop message at 7.24pm."
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to assist with a car fire on Hill Lane in Southampton at 6.55pm yesterday evening (29 Dec).
"Officers attended the scene due to traffic management issues.
"The fire is not being treated as suspicious."
